This commemorative Estonian poster was issued in 1986 for the 125th anniversary of the first popular edition of Kalevipoeg, the national epic first published in full in 1862. Kalevipoeg, compiled chiefly by Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald from Estonian folkloric material, was one of the central texts of the 19th-century national awakening and remained a key symbol of cultural identity in Estonia.
