Description:
This poster was produced to promote Futurama, held at Queens Hall in Leeds on 8–9 September 1979 and billed as “the world’s first science fiction music festival.” The event was created by Leeds promoter John Keenan and became one of the landmark festivals of the British post-punk era, bringing together key bands at the moment when punk was giving way to new wave, post-punk and experimental music. Its line-up included Public Image Ltd, Joy Division, Hawkwind, The Fall, Cabaret Voltaire and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, among many others. As a collectible, the poster is an important document of late-1970s British music culture and of the first Futurama festival, which later became a recurring name in the UK alternative music scene.
