What is Kapsel?

Kapsel is a poster shop that opened in Tallinn in the summer of 2025, offering original prints and posters mainly from the 20th century. Our mission is to provide customers with high-quality and affordable prints that bring harmony between history and aesthetics into any space – every print carries its own unique story. Kapsel began from Aleksander’s personal fascination with old posters. While studying in Gothenburg, Sweden, his dorm room felt rather bleak – white walls and a linoleum floor. To bring some life into the room, he started searching for posters and prints online. But after scrolling through countless web shops, he completely lost the sense of vision and emotion for what he actually wanted on his wall. More and more, he began to feel that the paper hanging on the wall should have had a function, a purpose, and a story. One thing led to another, and soon he had collected so many posters that most of them no longer fit on the walls. Now, back in Tallinn, he has a chance to share all these fascinating posters and prints with everybody.

Why original posters?

Old posters give the room a totally different feeling and vibe than new, mass-printed posters you see every day in Instagram ads or on every third friend’s wall. Since these posters were originally printed for specific purposes — exhibitions, films, concerts, or campaigns — they were never meant to flood the market. While more copies may have existed once, most have long disappeared. In my shop, I usually have only one of each design, which makes every piece truly unique. It’s highly unlikely you’ll come across the same poster anywhere else. Each one has survived time and circumstance — and now you get the chance to give it a new life.

Prints

You can explore our collection of prints in person at our shop in the Põhjala Factory, located at Marati 5–3. Online, the best overview of what’s currently available can be found on our Instagram account, where we actively post new arrivals. Keep in mind, however, that what you see on Instagram is just a small glimpse of everything we have in stock. Our selection currently focuses mainly on posters from the Estonian SSR period and Swedish posters from various decades, along with a wide range of designs from around the world. The main poster categories include exhibition posters, film posters, advertising posters, band and concert posters, lithographs, and travel posters.

Full service

We offer everything you need to get your print ready to hang on your wall. That means a wide selection of wall art, standard-size frames, and—if you wish—a framing service through one of our partners. We do our best to make sure your chosen piece doesn’t end up rolled up in a corner collecting dust, but instead finds its place on your wall for everyone to admire.

Prices

Our goal is to make original works accessible to as many people as possible. For that reason, most of our pieces are priced between 20–60 euros. You’ll also find rarer and more valuable posters and lithographs priced in the hundreds, so there’s something for every taste and budget. About 95% of the prints sold in Kapsel’s shop are original prints, meaning we don’t produce unnecessary new stuff. By choosing unique originals, you’re also helping the environment — it’s essentially a beautiful form of recycling.

How to buy?

Kapsel’s online shop is currently being set up, but all the main functions should already be working. The most reliable and best way to buy, however, is to visit us in person at our store at Marati 5–3. When you’re here, you can see how the colours truly come alive, how a poster feels in real-life scale (size and composition can be quite misleading on a screen), and you get to see the full selection with your own eyes. You can also purchase items featured on our Instagram — just send us a DM there.

Shipping

Posters purchased from our online shop are shipped within Estonia via Omniva parcel machine. To Latvia and Lithuania, we send posters by courier. If you’d like your poster delivered to another country, please email us, and we’ll figure out the best solution together. All posters are carefully packed in sturdy cardboard poster tubes.
