This 1990 calendar poster was issued by Tallinna Kaubamaja to mark the department store’s 30th anniversary. Opened in 1960, Kaubamaja was one of the best-known symbols of modern urban retail in Soviet Estonia, and anniversary posters like this were made both as promotional material and as commemorative branding.
Historically, the piece belongs to the turning-point years at the end of the Soviet period, when consumer culture, money imagery and commercial identity were taking on new meaning in Estonia just before the restoration of independence. As such, it is both a shop-issued calendar poster and a period artifact from the late Soviet transition era.
